Who is James Kicklighter?

James Kicklighter directs from Los Angeles across three formats. Documentary work has appeared on STARZ, Apple TV and Prime Video. Narrative and commercial work has been released theatrically and across television and digital platforms, drawing from the same craft, applied to different containers.

The throughline across formats is identity. The Sound of Identity followed the first openly transgender singer to perform a leading role in professional opera in the United States. The American Question examined a national debate through the people inside it. Each project starts with a person and asks what their story reveals about the moment.
