Director’s Note

This is the second-pass editing notes document for Desires of the Heart, delivered after the team addressed Pass One. Seven pages of timecoded corrections covering audio fixes, subtitle changes, visual effects refinements, and end credit corrections.

What this captures is the unglamorous middle of post. Subtitle punctuation. Echo on Alicia's ADR that has to go. White skies that should be blue. Abrupt audio cuts that need to fade. The cell phone ring at 03:05:28:04 that shouldn't be there. The bus that needs to honk in the distance so the moment Kris gets hit at 1:23:38 actually lands instead of feeling random.

Pay attention to the note at 1:24:11. The fly lands on Kris's face at the end of the film and we hear nothing. I asked the team to insert the buzzing because the fly is the thematic spine of the entire feature, a symbol of destiny that bookends the opening Sati sequence and Kris's death in India. If you don't hear the fly, the symbolism collapses. That's the kind of detail that has to be caught in pass two because pass one was about big strokes.

The credit corrections at the bottom matter too. Names misspelled in a final credit crawl are forever. Ryan Watterson. Bobbie Harley. Renonda Anderson. Lilly Lee Maatta moved to Special Thanks because she wasn't a casting director. Getting those right is part of the job.

For filmmakers in post, this document is a model of how to triage a long list of small things without losing the through-line of what the film is actually trying to do.
