Director’s Note

This is the production shotlist for Whatever It Takes, organized scene by scene with lens, frame rate, rig, lighting and color, gear notes, and the priority timing block for each setup. We shot this in a single day, June 1, with hard cuts between locations and a tight crew.

What this captures is a one-day plan to shoot what reads like a three-day script. The warehouse sequence carries the most coverage because it's where the film tips from social to sinister. Scene 5 outside the warehouse opens with a dolly back from a bouncer past patrons on their phones, booming up to find Heaven, Destiny, and Kayla in line. That single move sets up the social hierarchy the film is about to dismantle. Scene 7's montage covers drinks, dance, beer pong, and Baby Rilla tipping the bottle into Heaven's mouth, all built around handheld at 120fps so the slow-motion carries the dread of the night unfolding too fast for her to stop it.

Pay attention to the color coding in the gear notes. Scene 8 is green. Scene 9 is red. The shift from green to red is the script's tilt from party to ritual rendered as lighting design. By the time Heaven is dragged toward the altar in 9.3, the room has gone fully red and the camera pushes in on her final decision moment.

The iPhone insert and the void scenes were shot first. They're the framing device, the dust-particle dark room with the phone illuminating Heaven's reel. That's where the film begins and ends, and shooting it before we had the rest of the footage meant we knew exactly what to put on the phone screen.

For ADs and DPs working a single-day shoot with multiple locations, this is a model of how to triage.
