Otherworld Shotlist

Director’s Note

This is the companion shotlist for the otherworld hospital scenes, the alternate dimension Atul wakes into when his eyes close in the real world. Same physical location, completely different visual grammar.

What this captures is the inverse of the real world. Wider lenses. An 18mm cowboy-to-wide on Atul leaving the room. A 25mm pan-to-dolly leading him down the corridor. The camera moves more freely because the otherworld is the space where Atul has agency, where he can chase Taylor, where he can open doors that don't open in reality. The wider lenses also make the empty hospital feel cavernous, which is exactly the loneliness the song is exploring.

Pay attention to the notes from Jonathan Pope, my DP. They're embedded in the document because we built this shotlist together and made real-time triage decisions about which shots to prioritize if we ran out of time. Shot I versus Shot M was a genuine choice we had to make in the room. Q versus Q from the real-world list was meant to intercut. Those marginal notes are how a shotlist actually functions on a fast shoot.

For directors working with a DP, this is what real collaboration looks like on paper. Two names. Two perspectives. One plan.
